Young Babies

The physical care of small babies is of primary importance together with the need for play and stimulation. Babies are cared for by experienced staff who give them the warmth and attention they require. They are cared for in small groups and each child has a key carer to guarantee continuity and stability, enabling the key carer to closely observe the child's development and provide a stimulating programme of activity.

Babies have a dedicated playroom and sleeproom and follow their own individual feeding and sleeping routines. Our baby rooms are very homely and comfortably furnished to a high standard with good quality toys. Play periods for babies are stimulating and carefully planned by using natural textures, colourful toys, objects and experiences which are visually interesting. Stimulating music is played to encourage babies to use their senses.

Older Babies

Babies begin to learn about language sounds, and rhythms, how things feel, what objects do, how to expect things to happen again and what they can do with their own bodies. We use flashcards and colourful, textured and lift-the-flap books to support their leaning. Once babies become mobile, they are provided with a range of equipment and activities to further develop their social, physical and intellectual skills.

Children of this age particularly enjoy ball games, push and pull toys, ride on toys and play which allows them freedom to develop their locomotion, balance, coordination and strength. Action songs messy play and exploratory play with natural materials all form part of the daily activities.

In their second year children will be developing independence and decision-making skills. They are offered a choice of activities so that they can follow their own interests and increase concentration and attention spans. Messy play and sensory activities allow children to experiment with a range of materials and colours to develop their creative skills.

Language and communication skills will be the focus of many planned activities, particularly role play, rhymes, action songs and music. As children of this age, play alongside and with others, they will learn to share and understand the need for rules and how encouraging small group activities when children can interact with each other.
